Unite for Suriname: The 2026 Keti Koti Capsule

On July 1st, we mark Keti Koti. It is the day the chains were cut, commemorating the abolition of slavery in Suriname and the Dutch Antilles. For our community, this is a vital moment of reflection, remembrance, and honoring the resilience of generations whose cultures thrive today.

Now in its sixth year, our annual collaboration with sports-for-good organization KLABU returns. This edition is built alongside Amsterdam-based Atelier Reservé. Bound by our founders' shared Surinamese heritage, we designed the Unite for Suriname capsule.

True impact requires action. All proceeds from this collection go directly back to Suriname, supporting the Clubhuis in Commewijne: a dedicated space where local youth can learn, play, and create together.

A Shared Table

Our roots are grounded in the act of coming together. For this campaign, we brought members of the Surinamese community around a shared table. Through food, conversation, and the exchange of stories across generations, we celebrate the collective spirit that drives this collection.

The Design Details

The capsule centers on two football jerseys woven with a custom Gowtu jacquard pattern for an airy, breathable structure. Both pieces feature a prominent 51 graphic to mark fifty-one years of Surinamese independence.

This ongoing collaboration between Filling Pieces and KLABU is rooted in a shared mission: to create opportunity through sport and storytelling. This collection is more than fashion - it’s a statement of solidarity and a step toward a brighter future.

"Keti Koti is a moment to reflect, remember and celebrate. As someone of Surinamese descent, this project holds deep personal meaning. Through our collaboration with Atelier Reservé and KLABU, we continue to honour our shared heritage while investing in future generations."

Check out the Clubhouse

KLABU, which means ‘club’ in Swahili, is the cross-border sports club changing the playing field for refugees and local communities globally. The Amsterdam based organisation builds community-led clubhouses in refugee camps and cities where young people can find joy, pride and hope through sports, no matter the circumstances. Each clubhouse has its own unique KLABU sportswear, available to supporters worldwide who want to play their part. The goal: to build the world’s biggest sports club.

Active projects are in Kenya, Bangladesh, Greece, and the Netherlands, with partners like UNHCR and Paris Saint-Germain. Proceeds from KLABU’s sportswear fund these projects, helping to create a global community of supporters. Join KLABU and support refugee sports projects by purchasing their sportswear at klabu.org or at the KLABU Store & Clubhouse in Amsterdam.

Much love to everyone who contributed to this meaningful project.
