United Spirit 2025: Community

For the third year in a row, Filling Pieces and KLABU come together to celebrate Keti Koti, the Surinamese day of remembrance and freedom - with the launch of the United Spirit: Community capsule collection.

This year's drop includes a limited-edition jersey and cap, available for both kids and adults. Designed in a deep green hue with a golden gowtu jacquard pattern, the pieces honour Surinamese heritage and incorporate the powerful symbol of the ‘Matten-Klopper’ ring - representing reconciliation and togetherness. Along the sleeves, the phrase “Nanga makandra fu fri” (“Together for freedom”) reminds us of the strength found in unity.

Each purchase directly supports the opening of a community clubhouse and tennis court in the Commewijne district of Suriname, set to open in October 2025. More than just a sports facility, the clubhouse will offer a creative space for the local youth - with tennis coaching, arts, crafts, and storytelling sessions that reflect their heritage and unlock new futures.

The initiative is led by grassroots hero Salome Veerman-Shewgobi and her team at Community Tennis Suriname, and is made possible by all who have supported the FP x KLABU collections over the years and the support of On's social impact program, On Right To Run. With your help, we’re turning sports and culture into a force for change.

This year's campaign is centres around the theme of community. It’s what connects us, grounds us, and helps us grow. Through a powerful series of portraits and videos, 14 talents share their stories - from football legend Jeremain Lens and DJ Sunnery James, to presenter Sosha Duysker and Olympic swimmer Kenzo Simons. Each story is a testament to the people and places that shaped them - and how freedom is something we don’t just commemorate, but build together.

This ongoing collaboration between Filling Pieces and KLABU is rooted in a shared mission: to create opportunity through sport and storytelling. The United Spirit collection is more than fashion - it’s a statement of solidarity and a step toward a brighter future.

SURINAME SPIRIT - CLUBHOUSE

Every purchase directly contributes to our new 'United Spirit' initiative, a collaborative mission to build a clubhouse in a local Surinamese community, creating a safe space for culture, education, sports, and music.

KLABU, which means ‘club’ in Swahili, is the cross-border sports club changing the playing field for refugees and local communities globally. The Amsterdam based organisation builds community-led clubhouses in refugee camps and cities where young people can find joy, pride and hope through sports, no matter the circumstances. Each clubhouse has its own unique KLABU sportswear, available to supporters worldwide who want to play their part. The goal: to build the world’s biggest sports club.

Active projects are in Kenya, Bangladesh, Greece, and the Netherlands, with partners like UNHCR and Paris Saint-Germain. Proceeds from KLABU’s sportswear fund these projects, helping to create a global community of supporters. Join KLABU and support refugee sports projects by purchasing their sportswear at klabu.org or at the KLABU Store & Clubhouse in Amsterdam.

Much love to everyone who contributed to this meaningful project.
