Care & Materials

As a product focused company, we live by creating quality products which have unique designs and are made in the most responsible way possible. This starts with our design approach, and continues to guide our process including material selection, as well as where, how, and with whom we produce the footwear, apparel and accessories we offer.

After years of designing, building relationships with suppliers, factories, and optimizing our production processes, we can proudly say that we continue to bridge the gap between different people, cultures and disciplines, using product as our tool.

From design, to material selection, innovation, and production, our products stand for quality and craftsmanship.

Nubuck

Nubuck is a type of leather made from cowhide. Like suede, it is sanded to create a nap but while suede is made from the inside of the hide, nubuck is made from the outside, which is much stronger and which lasts longer.

For cleaning, use a nubuck cloth to wipe away light soiling and shiny spots in circular motions. Remove laces beforehand. Brush gently with a nubuck block to clear dirt. For tough stains, use nubuck cleaner sprayed onto a cloth, then brush off residue. For tougher stains, use the nubuck liquid and aerosol cleaners.

Routine maintenance includes regular wiping with a nubuck cloth and applying a protectant spray every 6 months. When using protectant spray allow time for the nubuck to thoroughly dry before using or wearing it. The best time to spray this protectant is after cleaning your nubuck surface.

Suede

Suede is made from the underside of the hide, that is why suede has a velvety surface. It is softer than regular leather but more prone to stains and wear.

Because suede is softer than regular leather, it makes it comfortable to wear. Also suede lets air pass through, so you can properly wear it in different seasons. Styles where we use nappa the most are; Low Top, Mondo.

To care for suede: Use a suede brush with wire and rubber bristles to remove debris and scuff marks. Brush gently in the fabric's grain direction to avoid damage. Avoid harsh brushing and protect from chemicals, sweat, and oils. Store away from sunlight and in a cool, dark place. Treat stains promptly; blot water stains and use baking soda for oil/grease stains. Use a colourless eraser or nail file for dry stains, and avoid chemical stain removers. Use a leather cleaner specifically for suede if other methods fail.
